E9. Since the Land Rover was introduced in 1948, there has always been at least one in the Engineering Department fleet. Although not full recovery vehicles, these versatile machines are quite capable of towing a broken-down bus out of the way, until a more permanent recovery can be made. This long-wheelbase Landrover pick-up, E9 (C224 EKN), was bought new in 1986, and was in use until 2014, when it was replaced by E19 (DA14 RFP), a broadly similar Landrover Defender, but with a hard top rather than the canvas tilt as seen here.
